Linux system administration tips

This section contains various tips I've found/discovered and used when administering Linux systems both at work and home.

The various work-related tips are mainly associated with configuring servers, mostly RedHat & Fedora servers running the Ensim/Parallels Pro control panel software. The personal tips I've made notes of are more related to general desktop computing (configuring screen resolutions, 5 button mice, etc), from when I was running Ubuntu at home.

To make it clearer which lines in these tips are commands to be entered into a terminal, commands will appear in a special display. For example:
