Has anything here been really useful?

Home

Welcome to tjl2.com! This site has been set up so that I have somewhere to store various useful tips and scripts for work and home.

This site also serves as somewhere for me to have a play around with various web design techniques. Some of this stuff might even be useful for other people.

Current Design

I've just revamped this site to use one of the templates from Open Source Web Design. This particular CSS design was created by Andreas Viklund.

Site Information

Below is a list of some of the things you will find on this site:

  • quotawatch - a PHP script used to monitor disk quotas on an Ensim server
  • virtDomain.sh - a couple of examples of how to use Ensim's virtDomain customisation scripts
  • system admin section - a few notes taken down to remind me how I have solved various Linux-related problems, both at work and home
  • Vim Cheat Sheet - proving popular on several Linux forums, this cheat sheet is in PDF format and is ideal for printing out and keeping on your desk!

New additions

12th Dec 2007 Came across a new Ensim problem after some recent CentOS 5 updates. Fix is here: [ENSIM] CentOS 5 updates introduce new keyutils-libs RPM, breaking multiple services

22nd Jun 2007: Added a quick reference: Generating a self-signed SSL certificate.

14th Nov 2006: Added an article: [ENSIM] Installing 'unrar' on Fedora Core 4

4th Apr 2006: Added an article describing a recent Ensim cron-related problem in Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 3. It includes instructions that fix the issue.

1st Feb 2006: Added a Vim cheat sheet - a PDF reference to some of Vim's useful and powerful commands and features.

20th Jan 2006: Added blockip script - a Bash script that makes it easy to add and remove IP addresses from Shorewall's iptables firewall blacklist.

13th Jan 2006: Added a how-to section - how to configure extra buttons on a Logitech Cordless Optical mouse.

9th Jan 2006: Added system administration tip about how to set up SSH keys. Implementing keys was one of the most useful things I have ever done as a system administrator!

Please note that this site has a few visual quirks when being viewed in Microsoft Internet Explorer, but nothing critical. I haven't got the patience (or the skills) to fix them all!
